Shanks also known Killer of Observation Haki is the most notorious red haired pirate. Since 1997 his mysterious are still unsolved to this date. His screen time may be sparse but presence has always been large. The Yonko’s powers are often whispered about but what’s the real deal with Shanks Haki and his power level. Continue reading below
What is the Haki of Shanks
Shanks Haki is nothing short of legendary. He doesn’t rely on a Devil Fruit like most Yonko do yet he’s one of the strongest characters in the series. How is that even possible? After Gold D. Rogers noone ever displayed this type of feat except this man. The answer lies in his complete dominance over Haki. Shanks is complete in all three forms: Conqueror, Armament and Observation. But his Conqueror’s Haki is on another level entirely. When Shanks clashed with Whitebeard, their combined Haki split the sky into two. That thing wasn’t just a cool visual, it was a statement. Only the most powerful characters in One Piece can achieve such a feat. Then in Wano, Shanks used his Conqueror’s Haki to paralyze Admiral Ryokugyu from miles away. You heard it right – he wasn’t even in the same area still he backed off an Admiral with ease. This showed just how fearsome Shanks Haki can be. “Killer of Observation Haki” is not just a title alone, he can prevent opponents from seeing the future. That’s a unique skill no one else has displayed so far.
Can Shanks Use All 3 Haki ?
You bet he can, loaded with all 3 forms, he’s a master of
- Conqueror’s Haki: Shanks willpower is so strong, it literally paralyzes opponents.
- Observation Haki: He can see into the future for minutes, a skill he flexed during his fight with Eustass Kid, predicting attacks ten seconds ahead without breaking a single sweat.
- Armament Haki: Common but still rare, his mastery allows him to coat his sword with immense destructive power. Some fans even speculate his “flaming sword” might be an advanced form of this Haki. Where others need Devil Fruits to produce elemental effects, he achieves similar results purely through Haki.
One thing is clear that he’s the man who doesn’t look for records to break instead he set unachievable goal for others.

Is Shanks Haki the Strongest
Let’s be real, all signs point to yes. Shanks has achieved Yonko status without a Devil Fruit. That alone is a solid proof. Kaido himself admits Shanks as one of the few capable of fighting him equally. Kaido is the self proclaimed “World’s Strongest Creature”. Shanks ability to split the skies with his Haki while clashing with Whitebeard is another evidence of his power. Among the Yonkos he stands out as a Haki specialist. He’s like the Michael Jordan of Haki, effortlessly in a league of his own.
Is Shanks Haki Stronger than Roger’s ?
Its a 1 million Berry question. Comparing Shanks and Roger is tricky. Roger the Pirate King is also a Haki beast. He didn’t rely on a Devil Fruit either, which feels like déjà vu when you think about Shanks. However, Shanks trained under Roger and inherited his footprints but could it mean the apprentice have surpassed the master? Maybe. While Roger’s strength is a thing of legend.. He conquered the Grand Line, fought toe-to-toe with Whitebeard and clashed with Rocks D. Xebec (Greatest Pirate). Unluckily we have never seen/heard or not shown yet Roger performing advanced Haki techniques like preventing future sight or paralyzing enemies from a distance. That makes Shanks’ abilities feel more refined & innovative. Its possible that Shanks has taken what he learned from Roger and pushed it to new heights. Shanks’ Conqueror’s Haki feats like immobilizing Ryokugyu from miles away push the limits of what we have seen in the series.

Calm down and lets not forget, Roger wasn’t around to witness today’s advanced Haki techniques. A King is a King not a Yonko, okay. Shanks might just be the upgraded 2.0 version and thats all.
What is so Special about Shanks
What sets Shanks apart is his focus while other Yonko juggle Haki mastery with Devil Fruit abilities. He has dedicated himself entirely towards the Haki alone just like his Captain. This single minded approach has allowed him to achieve levels of mastery that others can only dream of. He’s different from others unlike Kaido or Big Mom who rule through fear, Shanks operates with a sense of honor. For some unknown reasons he’s some kind of hero. He avoids unnecessary conflict and only fights when it truly matters. This restraint makes him even more dangerous. His bloodline is not to be ignored either. Shanks true potential is still unfolding but one thing’s clear for sure his mastery over Haki sets him apart as one of the greatest characters in One Piece.
