First & foremost, it’s cannon confirmed that Gol D. Roger never ate a Devil Fruit. He didn’t have the luxury of elemental control, mythical transformations or specialized powers. Instead, he relied entirely on his natural abilities and the mastery of something even more powerful thing called Haki (the spiritual force that allows users to sense intent, enhance their attacks and even overpower others’ wills) his true strength lies in his unmatched Haki. There were 3 main types of Haki and he mastered all three forms –
- Conqueror’s Haki (Haoshoku): Possed by a few and most important all forms. Roger’s Haki was so strong, it could clash evenly with Whitebeard’s (the only man who took 152 gunshot wounds, received 267 sword wounds and 46 cannonball wounds at Stage 4 Cancer and still died standing on his feet). Why Roger Didn’t use a Devil Fruit ?
Devil Fruits are powerful but comes weaknesses and limitations like the inability to swim and thats what something not wanted by a person of freewill.
